Join us for a special lecture, film, and musical program focused on the nostalgia of the silent film era. This special event will begin with a lecture on the early history of silent film, followed by the live experience of two original silent films with musical accompaniment scored and performed live by composer J. K. Hodge. Be sure to allow additional time to enjoy our Silver Screens of Suffolk exhibition, featured in our grand Staas Gallery. Space is limited! Call to reserve!
ABOUT THE PRESENTER: John Kenneth Hodge, born in Bay Shore and raised in Bayport, was musically inspired as a child by his grandfather, who was a theater house pianist during the silent film era. Around the age of eight, concerns about developmental motor-skill delays and a diagnosis of mild dyslexia prompted Hodge’s parents to enroll him in piano lessons as a means of strengthening and developing fine motor skills. Hodge rose above his challenges, developing talent and skill as a young performer and, later, as a composer. His talents rested during his college years, when he attended Dowling College, graduating with two teaching degrees. In his thirties, Hodge resurrected his musical talents, composing, performing, and recording albums. His Chopin-inspired contemporary classical compositions have earned him much acclaim as a New York-based concert pianist. Hodge is currently working on his fourth album, Holding Daylight, due out later this year.
