Over the next two hours\, the East End of Long Island--particularly the Westhampton area--experienced the extreme wrath of a storm that is still considered the fastest\, most powerful\, and deadliest hurricane on record in our region. On September 21\, 1938\, at approximately three-thirty in the afternoon\, a category 3 hurricane made landfall at Bellport.
