On a bright and sunny Fourth of July in 1976, an 80-year-old snack bar in East Marion became the Hellenic Snack Bar, situated in the middle of the greatest potato farming region on the East Coast of the United States. Fast-forward to 2016, and the same family-owned Hellenic Snack Bar and Restaurant stands at the tail-end of the three thousand acres of grapes that traded places with the potatoes. The focus on wine has changed the rural North Fork landscape dramatically. Hellenic owner George Giannaris will sign copies of his latest book, Ferry Tales II: When Hellenic Freezes Over, and share the local history of the restaurant, along with coveted recipes, comical short stories, and his philosophical insights.
ABOUT THE AUTHOR George Giannaris—author, electrical engineer, chef, restaurateur, and owner of his family’s East Marion restaurant—was inspired by the success of his first book, Ferry Tales, to continue writing about the landmark restaurant in Ferry Tales II: When Hellenic Freezes Over.
