Description

Tea & Talk: THE FLY GIRLS: The Women Airforce Service Pilots of World War II

With Special Guest Speaker Bruce Kagan

Thursday, May 2, 2019 - 1:00 pm
RSVP & Prepayment Required by April 24.
631-727-2881 x100

$25 per person. Includes assorted teas, fancy finger sandwiches, and sweets!

Join us for a fascinating historical presentation on the little-known contributions of the Fly Girls during World War II, the first female pilots of U.S. military aircraft. The Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP) story is one of women rising above prejudice and pushing forward to achieve their groundbreaking objective to pilot military aircraft. The WASP story is also Long Island's story, intertwined with the role that our island's many aircraft manufacturing plants played in helping to win the war.

Speaker Bruce Kagan will provide an overview of the contributions of the Fly Girls and how they piloted powerful and dangerous aircraft, He will also bring to life, through musical components and sing-alongs, how the Fly Girls marched to the mess hall, engaged in rigorous calisthenics, and sang songs from their WASP Songbook.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER: Bruce Kagan is a native Long Islander who taught elementary school for thirty-eight years in Miller Place. In his retirement he creates digital lectures on various historical topics.

Reserve Early! Space is limited, and sell-out risk is high! Call today:  631-727-2881 x100
